    Woman's costume from Sumadija, Serbia. This is a very fine workshop-produced dance costume. The blouse, apron and butterfly skirt are all hand-embroidered, and the vest is hand-couched with metallic thread and sequims.

  • cotton blouse with crochet lace at front neck and sleeves. The blouse has some worn areas (see picture)

    • The skirt has permanent pleats in the back and is flat in the front with a deep slit and ties to close it.

  • Authentic handwoven silk blouse with very fine hand embroidery at neck and front
  • Authentic velvet and metallic couched thread short-sleeved vest
  • Reproduction skirt
  • authentic belt buckle, on probably authentic belt
  • Very good and accurate reproduction overcoat with hand-couched metallic thread, made by a meticulous friend of Stefni's who copied an original.

  • Authentic shoes - I'm not sure if these are exactly from Mongenegro, but Stefni said these shoes belong with this costume. If anyone can positively identify Montenegran shoes, please contact us. Thanks.

  • Authentic hand-woven, hand-embroidered blouse. Note detail below that the heavy and stiff collar stressed the delicate silk of the blouse, and it is ripped.
  • Reproduction skirt
  • Authentic velvet short-sleeved vest with metallic hand-couched metallic decoration
  • Reproduction cap, made by the same friend of Stefni who made the reproduction sleeveless coat above. You can compare the scale and detail of the decoration of the authentic cap to that of the reproduction cap.

    Jewelry of related interest

    Old 5-part articulated Montenegram woman's belt buckle and belt.
    The buckles are worn with the chain hanging down over the buckle; the lower picture has the chain raised to show the details.

    Filigree cufflinks, stored with Stefni's Montenegran costumes

    There is a tag on them, supposedly from the store where she bought them, identifying them as being from the 1860's. filigree cufflinks
